The importance of genetic diversity in meeting the challenges facing the Pacific: Dr Ghodake (NARI)

Underutilized species: a silver bullet? Dr Jaenicke (CFF)

12 noon – 1.00pm Country Status reports I (there will be a total of 16 country reports of 10 minutes for each report.)

1.00 – 2.00pm Lunch

2.00 – 3.00pm Country Status reports II

3.00 – 3.30pm Afternoon Tea

3.30 – 5.00pm Country Status reports III and
Presentations from international and regional agencies (Bioversity, APAARI, CFF, SPC) – 10 minutes each

5.00 – 5.30pm Discussion of issues that have been raised during the day

22nd September

8.00 – 10.00am Recap on Day 1and introduce Working Group Sessions

Working Group Session – the topics for the Working Groups will be determined during this session and will be based on the issues raised during the discussions.

From the discussions the Working Groups should deliver the expected outputs as highlighted on the concept paper and agree on:

· a frame work for the development of a regional strategy, and

· how the regional strategy can be addressed within the 3rd phase of PAPGREN

The number of participants would support 3-4 Working Groups.

10.30 – 1.00pm Working Group Sessions

1.00 – 2.00pm Lunch

2.00 – 3.00pm Presentation of WG discussions

3.00 – 3.30pm Tea break

3.30 – 5.00pm A regional strategy for “Crops for the Future in the Pacific”

· Reflect on constraints and expected outputs – have these been addressed?

· Establish the framework for the regional strategy

· Agree on timelines, responsibilities, deliverables etc

NB: The agenda has been left quite open with regards to the Working Group Sessions as this is the approach that works best in the Pacific.
