APAARI Participates in the Green to Green International Research Conference 2025, Sri Lanka

Asia-Pacific Association of Agricultural Research Institutions (APAARI) expresses its sincere appreciation to the Sri Lanka Council for Agricultural Research Policy (SLCARP) and its leadership—Prof. R. S. Dharmakeerthi, Chairman; Mr. Prabath Wimal Kumara, Secretary; and Dr. S. M. P. Chandra Padmini, Conference Coordinator and Deputy Director—for the kind invitation to participate in the Green to Green International Research Conference 2025, successfully held on 16 December 2025 in Sri Lanka..

The conference brought together a diverse group of national scientists, academics, policymakers, and development practitioners to explore pathways towards sustainable, circular, and climate-resilient agri-food systems. It served as a valuable platform for knowledge sharing and constructive dialogue on innovative research, policy integration, and practical solutions to emerging challenges in agriculture and environmental sustainability.

The event was graced by the presence of Mr. D. P. Wickramasinghe, Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Lands and Irrigations, as the Chief Guest. The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Darshani Kumaragamage from the University of Winnipeg, Canada, highlighting the importance of Sustainable soil Management.

Two distinguished guest speakers—Dr. Ravi Khetarpal, Executive Director of Asia-Pacific Association of Agricultural Research Institutions (APAARI) – shared regional perspectives on Policy Based Approaches for Sustainable Agriculture. Ms. Camelia Andriana, Project Management Specialist at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)—shared global perspectives on investing in circular Agri-Food systems: Governance pathways and High Value opportunities for a food system transformation in Sri Lanka.

Ms. Darshika P. Senadheera, Communication Officer of APAARI, also joined the conference to provide technical support and event coverage, and to strengthen collaboration. APAARI values the opportunity to contribute to this important dialogue and looks forward to continued collaboration with SLCARP in advancing resilient and sustainable agri-food systems in the Asia-Pacific region.

Signing of an MOU with the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa
— Strengthening Food Security through Science-Based Soil Management Technologies —

On August 22, 2025, JIRCAS and the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on international collaboration.

Under this agreement, JIRCAS will cooperate with FARA and the “Soil Initiative for Africa (SIA)” to promote and scale up soil health technologies for smallholder farmers in Africa.

This milestone represents an important step toward strengthening food security and contributing to economic development in Africa through sustainable agriculture.

“Technology Catalog Contributing to Production Potential and Sustainability in the Asia-Monsoon Region Ver. 4.0” Released
—Strengthening its impact through alignment with the ASEAN-Japan MIDORI Cooperation Plan—

The Technology Catalog Ver. 4.0 for the Asia-Monsoon region, in line with the Strategy for Sustainable Food Systems, MIDORI, was published on the JIRCAS website on October 1, 2025.

The catalog includes updated information on two existing technologies and four newly added technologies, expanding the total to 44 technologies.

By aligning with the ASEAN-Japan MIDORI Cooperation Plan, which includes the Technology Catalog as Annex 3, the catalog is expected to further contribute to building sustainable food systems across ASEAN countries.

ResearchUN Food Systems Coordination Hub Highlights JIRCAS and NARO as “Japan’s Innovation Engine” Staff Recruitment

On November 28, 2025, the official website of the UN Food Systems Coordination Hub, which was established within FAO as a follow-up mechanism of the 2021 United Nations Food Systems Summit (UNFSS), published an online article introducing the Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences (JIRCAS) and the National Agriculture and Food Research Organization (NARO) as “Japan’s Innovation Engine” driving Japan-originated agricultural research innovations.

“JIRCAS Research Archive” Launched: Tracing 50 Years of Progress Through History and Records

On March 17, 2026, the Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences (JIRCAS) launched the JIRCAS Research Archive.

Developed as part of the “Showa 100” initiatives, this archive systematically organizes reports on field surveys and research collaborations conducted worldwide by overseas researchers from the Tropical Agriculture Research Center (TARC) and JIRCAS. It also includes photographic records documenting activities from that era.

Call for Nominations: 2026 (The 20th) Japan International Award for Young Agricultural Researchers (Japan Award)

Eligibility:

Candidates must be researchers who have the nationality of a developing country and/or territory, are under 40 years old as of January 01, 2026, belong to a non-Japanese research institute or a non-Japanese university, are engaged in research and development in agriculture, forestry, fisheries and related industries in developing regions, and fall under any of the following criteria (Note: Those who have applied for and missed the award in previous years are eligible to re-apply).

(a) Those who have shown outstanding performance in research and development in agriculture, forestry, fisheries, or related industries for a developing region, and who show great promise.

(b) Those who have shown outstanding achievements in research and development that will lead to future technological innovation in agriculture, forestry, fisheries or related industries for a developing region, and who show great promise.

The candidates, in principle, must be able to attend the awarding ceremony in person that will be held in Japan and to deliver a lecture.
