What is APAARI?
APAARI is a voluntary, membership-based, apolitical and multi-stakeholder regional forum that facilitates knowledge sharing, learning and collaboration for its members, partners and other stakeholders working in agri-food research and innovation systems of the Asia-Pacific region.
What does APAARI do?
As a knowledge facilitator, it connects its members, partners and other stakeholders through regional dialogue and collective actions to strengthen agri-food research and innovation systems in the Asia-Pacific region.
Does APAARI mean APAARI Secretariat?
No. APAARI is a community of its members, partners and other stakeholders that contribute to the strengthening of agri-food research and innovation systems through collective actions. APAARI Secretariat based in Bangkok, Thailand, coordinates such actions.
Who can be a member of APAARI?
An organization that falls into one of the following categories can become a member of APAARI: National Agricultural Research Institute (NARI), National Agricultural Research Organization, Higher Education Institution, Inter-governmental Agency, CGIAR and/or other international agricultural research centre , international development organization , civil society (non-governmental organization (NGO) or farmers’ organization (FO), global/regional/sub-regional forum, working for the strengthening of agri-food research and innovation systems.
How can my organization become a member of APAARI?
To become a member of APAARI, organizations that fall into one of the above categories may apply for membership by completing an application form.
What category of membership can my organization apply for and what is the difference?
APAARI has four different categories of membership. First, Regular Members are national agricultural research organizations (NAROs) and national agricultural research institutes (NARIs) paying membership fees and have voting rights. Depending on their level of financial contribution as a membership fee, they are further categorized as Category I (USD 10,000 ), Category II (USD 6,000), and Category III ( USD 3,000). Second, Associate Members are CGIAR centres, international agricultural research organizations, and universities paying annual membership fee of USD 5,000. This category also has voting rights. Third, Affiliate Members are NARIs, international development and agricultural research organizations, and universities, paying annual membership fee of USD 1,500. Fourth, Reciprocal Members are regional fora and other research and development organizations/centres and do not pay any membership fee since it is mutually waived off. Organizations falling in the third and fourth category have no voting rights as per the APAARI Constitution.
How can my organization benefit from the membership?
The strong links and partnerships with national agricultural research and innovation systems, and between national, regional and global stakeholders that APAARI possess and facilitates, benefit its members in terms of knowledge sharing, learning and collaboration. Capitalizing on these connections, APAARI creates and facilitates opportunities for discussion, knowledge exchange and policy dialogue among its members, partners and other stakeholders to influence the development agenda in the Asia-Pacific region. APAARI also facilitates participation of its members, including those disadvantaged ones, in conferences, symposia, workshops and key capacity development programmes to enable them to address key national issues facing agri-food systems, and highlight agri-food innovations and solutions for the benefit of small farmers, at the regional and global fora.
How can my organization contribute to the membership?
APAARI members are expected to contribute to the realization of the APAARI Vision 2030 (2334 downloads) and collective actions to strengthen agri-food research and innovation systems. In addition to their financial commitment to APAARI, their contribution is in the form of sharing of knowledge and experiences with agricultural innovations, policies and development models that could be scaled up and out in other countries and thereby contribute to the sustainable development of the region
