APAARI has joined the Greater Mekong Subregion Cross-Border Livestock Health and Value Chains Improvement Project (CLHVCIP), an Asian Development Bank-funded initiative supporting the Government of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic to strengthen livestock health, food safety, livestock productivity and value-chain performance.
The project will be implemented from 9 July 2026 to 8 July 2029. It aims to strengthen animal health systems, promote digital transformation and institutional capacity development, and facilitate safer regional livestock trade.
This is APAARI’s first project focused specifically on the livestock sector, representing an important expansion of its technical engagement in livestock health, food safety, value-chain development and regional trade in Asia and the Pacific.
The project is implemented by the Department of Livestock and Fisheries (DLF), Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, Lao PDR, in partnership with IDRG Consultancy Services, India, as the lead firm; Projects Consultant Sole Co., Ltd., Lao PDR; and the Asia-Pacific Association of Agricultural Research Institutions (APAARI), Thailand.
APAARI is a Joint Venture partner under the Critical Skills Development and Policy Support (CS02) consultancy. As part of the multidisciplinary consulting team, APAARI contributes technical expertise in livestock health systems, digital livestock information systems, institutional capacity development, policy frameworks and livestock value-chain development.
The project will deliver three key outputs:
Output 1: Livestock health and value-chain infrastructure expanded and upgraded in a climate-friendly manner
Output 2: Capacity for improved production and health of livestock and livestock products strengthened
Output 3: Enabling policies for better supply, health, safety and trade in livestock and livestock products enhanced
Through this partnership, APAARI will contribute to stronger, safer and more sustainable livestock systems in Lao PDR and to improved regional livestock trade across the Greater Mekong Subregion.
