World Cotton Day, observed annually on 7 October, celebrates cotton’s contribution to livelihoods, trade, innovation and sustainable development. This year’s theme, “Cotton for Good: Building Prosperity Through Trade, Transformation and Partnership,” highlights the importance of sustainable cotton value chains.
As a leading ready-made garment exporter, Bangladesh depends heavily on imported raw cotton. Strengthening domestic production through climate-resilient varieties, improved extension services, intercropping, mechanisation and stronger farmer–market linkages can help build a more productive and sustainable cotton sector.
