The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) invites interested participants to join the ESCAP Facilitated E-Learning Course on Trade and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2026, to be held online from 17 September to 1 November 2026.
The course is designed to enhance understanding among policymakers, practitioners, researchers, students, and the general public of the relationship between trade and the Sustainable Development Goals.
This year’s programme will revisit the role of export-oriented industrialization and consider whether it continues to offer effective pathways for emerging economies. The thematic sessions will also explore how changing global value chains are reshaping the relationship between trade and the SDGs, and how countries can respond to these changes to advance sustainable development.

Course highlights
The course includes thematic discussions on “Export-oriented industrialization revisited: What still works for emerging economies?” Participants will have the opportunity to:
- Explore the interconnections between trade and the SDGs in the context of shifting global value chains;
- Examine trade and SDG linkages through examples of Asia’s successes and challenges; and
- Join discussions on industrial policy, services, and Asia’s next growth engine.
The course comprises 15 self-paced, pre-recorded modules of approximately 15 minutes each, complemented by expert interviews, reading materials, quizzes, and live question-and-answer sessions through the ESCAP Community e-learning platform.
Participants who successfully complete the course and attend all live sessions will receive a free, traceable e-certificate from United Nations ESCAP.
